waiting for the robots

Living in a tsunami zone requires a monthly test of our town's tsunami warning sirens (which won't work for the dreaded Cascadia one). The last Friday of the month the sirens go off at 11 am - followed by the all clear chime. I've heard it a million times and although a little un-nearving, no big deal.
Yesterday's sirens were a different story though. I live on a busy street so I hear cars passing by all day long.... the next street over is the hospital, so there's ambulance sirens all time.... and the birds are so loud here, it's crazy (but I like that). So anyway..... it's usually loud in the day - except for yesterday. When the tsunami siren test went off everything was so quiet and it seemed like it bellowed like never before. The sound was just extra creepy and I felt like we would see those robot alien things from War of the Worlds come walking down the street - looking for us. I was totally freaked out.

The beach cures the bitchies

All the stress of these art deadlines has got the better of me this week. I was a tad cranky and was not looking on the bright side of life * hence the repost of the tsunami video. Today I took a stroll up the coast and cured the bitchy blues.

Yes, we are freak'n next - I live a tsunami zone and to make matters worse, the Cascadia Tsunami zone. Ok, so I watched this show a month ago (they play it often if you missed it) and it totally freaked me out. I was able to live in denial till seeing it, now it's all I think about.

Tonight, as I'm in my jammies, playing online, what do I hear? The tsunami siren!!! Yes - it's totally dumb, and if the tv was on, we would have never heard it. It sounds like the doorbell in the house I grew up in. Anyway - hearing it at 10pm made me panic and what did I do? Nothing!! I froze! Did I get my car and drive to high ground? No. I froze. Pat called the police to see if it was a test or something, and they said it was accidentally sounded. Holy shit - accidentally? I have since broken out into hives and I'm swollen and itching from my tummy to my eyebrows. I love the water and I love the ocean, and it sucks that I'm afraid of it now. GRRR!!!
